We value open, candid communication. We’re a Dutch company, after all. We’re direct, not combative, always clear about where we stand and where we want to go.
We empower our people, giving them freedom to own their work. That comes with mistakes, and that’s fine. We need them to learn; progress isn't linear.
A robin is a charming little bird, but that’s not what inspired our name. ROBIN is an acronym that captures our colourful technical heritage: Radar OBservation of Bird INtensity.
In 1980, the Dutch Research Institute for Applied Science, TNO, began a project to prevent strikes between birds and Royal Netherlands Air Force planes. The European Space Agency (ESA) contributed to Robin’s development with its FlySafe Initiative, processing raw images from air defence radars to visualise bird intensity.
In 2010, high-tech entrepreneur and Robin CEO, Siete Hamminga, saw our bright potential. He spun out the technology from TNO to make it commercially available, and Robin Radar Systems was born!
Robin Radar Systems is an independent company with strong financial backing. We don't take our leading market position for granted, far from it. With support from Mainport Innovation Fund and Inkef Capital, we breathe innovation into everything we do.
We’re proud of our heritage, and prouder still of our legacy of innovation. Meticulous patenting keeps products and services at the cutting edge, with 29 patents registered, and counting.
Robin radars are part of projects with the Netherlands Space Office, the world's most ecological wind farm, and even the most advanced weather radar: PHARA.
We’re proud of our history. With more than 40 years of radar science, customers can depend on tried, tested, and perfected 360° technologies. We still like a trip down memory lane now and then, though.
TNO starts a project for the Royal Netherlands Air Force using radar to detect birds. They name the project ROBIN: ‘Radar Observation of Bird Intensity’.
The European Space Agency (ESA) initiates a FlySafe project, contributing to the further development of the ROBIN project.
