This week we had a special delegation visit our new offices; 17 former TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) employees and their partners.
They all worked on Robin in the eighties before Robin became Robin, and was still a project within TNO.
In fact, we’ve communicated before that Robin started as a project in TNO; Robin standing for Radar Observation Of Bird INtensity. But what many people don’t know is that it started before that even. The original concept was called ‘Kievit’.
The first Robin system was delivered by TNO to the Royal Dutch Air Force in 1989 and was used to calculate bird intensity over the Netherlands. With this information the Air Force could make better decisions about where to conduct flight operations and training exercises without a high risk of collision with birds.
We expect the book to be published in the next few months.
